2015 Garden Seed Order – Placed!

I’m so excited to say that I’ve placed my seed order for my 2015 garden. Picking out seeds is a real treat this time of year. When the weather is so nasty that I don’t want to go outside and feed my chickens, I can browse through all of my zillions of seed catalogs and dream of warmer weather. And even though I say every year that I might never start plants from seed again, I always end up with more seeds to start.

2015 Garden Seed Order – Placed!

This year, I ordered my seed packets from Pinetree Garden Seeds. Last year, I ordered from Baker Creek, and I really love them. The year before, I ordered from Seed Savers, and I love them too. I guess I like the spread the wealth. There’s really no other rhyme or reason as to why I chose Pinetree – I just wanted to try something new. I also ordered my seed potatoes – I always order them from Seed Savers because I think they have the biggest variety of organic seed potatoes, and ordering organic seed potatoes is important to me.

I’m trying some new things in my garden this year. First, I plan to take my garden vertical to free up more room. A local friend built an amazing cucumber trellis last year that he was quite pleased with and I plant to steal erm borrow the design for my own garden. I’m also excited to try out the Three Sisters method of planting corn, beans, and squash. My dad is skeptical but I have “friends” on instagram  {come follow me!} who say it works well! And I really love the ornamental gourds and corns this year, so I’ve added more of them too. I know they’re not really good for much, but they sure are pretty, and I can, so why not? 😀

I do have some seeds left over from last year (a few varieties of tomatoes, spinach, broccoli, and eggplant) and a friend and I collaborated on our seed order this year so we can share varieties! We got different varieties of tomatoes and peppers to share, and a few other things too. The same friend also showed me a seed starting date generator, which I love. I’ve printed it out and will use it to determine when I start my seeds. Hopefully the seed starting will go well this year.

Here’s my seed potato order from Seed Savers

Seed Savers has free shipping on $40+ orders this year in honor of their 40th anniversary! And they’re from Iowa, so you know I love them.

Last year I grew 2 1/2 pounds each of four different varieties of corn, so I’m actually scaling back this year. I always grow Yukon Gold, but the La Ratte and the German Butterball are new varieties to me. I hope we like them. I follow the no-dig method of potato growing, and it was worked beautifully for me the last two years – with over 200 lb yields both years!

Anyway, I am very excited for my 2015 garden. I’m drawing it out over the next couple of weeks, and will share my plan with you when I’m done.I can’t wait to show you what I’m planning!

What are you growing in 2015? And where are you ordering from? Please tell me!

  1. Holy smokes! What an order! Your garden must be massive! We just ordered our seeds from pinetree too. I just updated my blog today telling all about it. I'm always excited to try something new, but since my garden is smallish, I can't try everything I want to.
  2. I was so excited to order my seeds at the start of the year this year! Nothing like getting a head start on planning... and dreaming! I plant to work more vertical this year, too. I am new to the concept, but am excited to see how it all turns out to maximize my space.
