Until a few weeks ago, we had a deck that looked like this:blankCan you see the sag in the middle? The lack of railings and the general awful and unsafe appearance of the deck? Yes – I’m sad to say we lived with the deck in this state of disrepair for over a year. My husband and I couldn’t decide if we wanted to try to fix and save the deck, or replace it with a concrete patio. We {well, he} finally decided to tear it out and one Friday afternoon a few weeks ago, the deck disappeared. I was left with a great big mess when we found more than we bargained for after the deck was removed: a huge cistern we had to deal with before we could pour a patio!blankImagine my delight when #CBias and #SummerWithSears picked me to for a patio makeover project! To say I was thrilled is a complete understatement. I was over the moon with excitement! I couldn’t wait to check out #SearsPatio supplies and see what I could get to liven up our project. I knew this project would be a fantastic way to thank my hubs for all the hard work he does around our house.

To prepare, I first looked through Sears’ online website, GrillingIsHappiness. The website was really easy to use – I was quickly able to sort through all types of items based on price, brand, item. It was so easy.

After I had a general idea of what I wanted to buy, we headed to our local Sears. I took my husband to pick out some grilling supplies as he’s chief griller at Chez Marine and this is an early Father’s Day present for him! We have a lot of Kenmore appliances – so while I was asked to shop at Sears for this blog post, shopping there is nothing new to us. My deep freeze is a Kenmore and so are my washer/dryer! We love Kenmore appliances.

So it was no surprise that we found a lot of things we liked at Sears and we ended up with some of the things on my list and extra items as well. We stocked up on grilling supplies: hickory chips, a smoker box to give our gas grill a “charcoal” like flavor, cedar planks for grilling fish, and a shish-kabob box as well! We also got tiki torches, a really nice grill cover, and a super cute solar cat. I love the little cat!

blankI can’t wait to come up with fabulous summer recipes using the grilling supplies we bought! You can see more pictures of the patio project {including the HUGE cistern we found under the old deck} and our Sears shopping trip at my Google+ album.

blankOnce we got home, we had some finishing touches to put on our new patio. Ok, a lot of finishing touches! It took us all day to put the patio together for our inaugural family grill-out and we didn’t even start grilling until 8 pm. 🙂

Are you ready for the reveal? Here’s the after picture of our new patio. Ta da! It’s so much nicer than the old, broken deck. I can’t believe it took us year to finish this project.

blankAnd here are some scenes from our first family night on our new outdoor living space. We had such a nice time! The weather was perfect for an outdoor fire. Anna told us funny jokes which put us in a really good mood. The kids were super cute.blankAnd the food, oh my!! I haven’t made such a nice meal in a while. We enjoyed homemade shish-kabobs. My hubs really, really liked his new shish-kabob grilling basket. And the hobo carrots and homemade strawberry-rhubarb pie were the perfect complements. Recipes for everything coming soon!

blankWe’re looking forward to many fun family evenings this summer on our new patio. My baby’s second birthday is this week and we’ll be celebrating outside for sure! We’re also looking forward to a fun Memorial Day BBQ and bonfire as well. Thanks #SummerWithSears #SearsPatio and #CBias for this fun opportunity! And thanks to my husband for all of his hard work! I absolutely love my new patio.

Did you make the fire pit? It looks awesome! And we had some of the same ideas. I think those little solar animals are a big hit and they look great! And is that a hot tub I see in the corner? When can I come over? LOL

We did make the fire pit! It’s awesome. I should blog how to make that, eh? 😉 And, yes, that is a hot tub in the corner. Sadly, though, it’s another project – it froze in 2011 and we haven’t fixed it yet. This shop was so much fun!! Just the kick we needed to finish up!

It looks marvelous! I know that was probably a trying experience for you but all worth it in the end. And YAY for Sears helping you pretty it up like that! I’m sure your family will enjoy many evenings out on your new patio!
