Gift a Daisy! And a Bass Pro Shop Giveaway #ItsADaisy #CollectiveBias
If you’re looking for cool Christmas gifts for boys and girls (ages 10+), I’ve got an idea for you! My kids been begging for a BB Gun for a long time and we promised them, that when they were old enough and more responsible, we’d get them one.
I like the idea of a Daisy BB Gun as a gift for my kids for two main reasons. First, what many kids crave most is attention and interaction from their parents or other loved ones – and parental involvement is necessary when BB guns are involved. And second, the Daisy BB Gun is a great way to introduce kids to the concept of gun safety, something I think is important for my kids to learn.
Santa’s Wonderland at Bass Pro Shops
I took my kiddos out to Bass Pro Shops Santa’s Wonderland a couple weeks ago and and picked up a 75th Anniversary Edition Red Ryder BB Gun as we were headed to my parents’ for Thanksgiving. We’ve been to the Bass Pro Shop Santa’s Wonderland before and always enjoy it. Plus, it was a nice way to break up the long drive down to Missouri.
We spent a good hour at Santa’s Wonderland – the kids played games, colored pictures, wrote out Christmas wish lists, and even got to meet Santa and have a free picture taken.
While we were there, we picked up a 75th Anniversary Edition Red Ryder BB Gun, a huge container of BB pellets, and also a pair of safety glasses. You know I will have several rules the kids must follow when shooting their Daisy – the first is to follow safe shooting practices, like wear protective eye gear.
Shooting with parents or another responsible adults is also high on my list of safe shooting practices. Since we’ve had the Daisy BB Gun, my daughter has enjoyed great one on one time with two generations of men in our family – and I can’t tell you how much I love seeing my kids interacting lovingly with their family members.
Parental attention and interaction with the Daisy BB Gun
I have a hard time thinking of ways for my dad to bond with my kids, and I thought he might enjoy helping the older kids learn how to shoot a Daisy BB gun. My dad grew up in a big farm family and I’ve heard lots of stories about his siblings and BB guns, so I thought a Daisy might be just the ticket to get him out and involved with my oldest daughter.
It turns out, I was right. My dad, who the kids call Opa (German for Grandpa), was excited by the idea and took his oldest granddaughter right outside for some BB shooting lessons. They had a great time together and it really made me smile. Anna was very excited to show her dad what she learned from her Opa too. In this world of princesses and girly girls, it’s sometimes hard to find ways for my daughters to bond with their male relatives. This Daisy BB gun is one way to get them all out having fun together, and that my friends, is priceless for sure!
Teaching kids gun safety
But it’s not just about having fun – the Daisy BB Gun is also about learning how to handle guns responsibly. Daisy educates roughly one million of America’s youth a year through their Ten Lesson Shooting Curriculum on safe gun use (found here), and has been doing so since 1948. The best way for kids to learn the right way to carry, handle, and properly respect a gun is to actually have something to practice with, and I’m glad we can start with a Daisy. We taught the kids the following rules, and then they had a great time bonding with the men in our family.
Marine Family Gun Safety Rules
- Treat every gun as if it is loaded and carry gun properly
- Respect people’s property
- Never run, play, or jump with a BB gun
- Wear safety goggles when shooting
- Make sure the target is clear of people and animals before shooting
- Have fun!
Priceless! It makes my heart sing to see my kids interacting positively and learning from their role models. Such a wonderful sight to behold! To learn more about Daisy BB Guns, check them out on Facebook and follow on Twitter.
