Fla-Vor-Ice Popsicles are not homemade or healthy, but I’m here to help here is 100% Homemade Fruit Popsicles – Fla-Vor-Ice-Healthified
Homemade 100% Fruit Popsicles – Fla-Vor-Ice Healthified
I know you guys have seen them because they’re everywhere in the summer. Fla-Vor-Ice Popsicles and their counterparts like the Kool Pops pictured below. Dreaded by health conscious moms across the country, these “popsicles” are what I called artificial sugar and artificial color bombs in a tube. But my goodness. My kids love them. WHHHHYYYYYY????? They are so nasty. In an attempt to get my kids to eat something a little healthier, I decided to make my own, homemade 100% fruit popsicles – that look like the unhealthy fla-vor-ice varieties, but are made out of 100% fruit instead.
Making these homemade fla–vor-ice popsicles is seriously easy, y’all. Head to ALDI and buy yourself some fruit. I opt for organic strawberries, blueberries, and apples, and conventional pineapple, mango, and watermelon.

Essentially, if it’s on the Dirty Dozen list, I prefer to buy organic. And if it’s on the Clean 15 list {and it’s not GMO}, I buy conventional. That just stretches my grocery budget, and luckily for me, ALDI carries some of the produce that I prefer be organic, and sells them at reasonable prices.
I bought the following ingredients at ALDI:
- Conventional watermelon – $3.29
- Organic, frozen strawberries – $2.99
- Organic, fresh blueberries – $3.29 / pint
- Bananas – .49 cents / lb
- Conventional lemons – .99 per bag
- Conventional pineapple – .99 each
- Organic lemonade – $3.29 – I think this would make a nice flavor, but it does add sugar, so if you don’t want sugar, don’t buy the lemonade.
Note: ALDI prices vary per location, so it’s possible that the prices I paid don’t match yours.
I also ordered some Zipzicles on Amazon. They weren’t very expensive ($3.99 for 12) and they are reusable, which I love. I first learned about them from a DIY Gogurt recipe on Make the Best of Everything! They have a lot of great potential uses and they’re kind of essential to the whole Fla-Vor-Ice knock off idea as they recreate the look. But you could also take this idea and use a popsicle maker to make these. Or make them in cups with popsicle sticks – the possibilities are really endless here.
To make your own, just use a Vitamix or other blender, and puree fruit in any combination you like. It works best if you use fresh fruit instead of frozen, but it also worked fine for me to use thawed frozen strawberries because unfortunately, ALDI was out of organic fresh strawberries when I went. We made pineapple, watermelon, strawberry-banana, and blueberry popsicles, one flavor at a time.
Use a funnel to fill the zipzicle. Squeeze it shut over the blender pitcher so if there’s extra you don’t lose it. Wipe the zipzicles off and put them in the freezer.
Freeze for a couple hours, or over night. Eat, enjoy, repeat! Seriously easy. Seriously delicious. Seriously healthy. I think lemon-lime would be a great flavor to make and will try that next time. Our favorite out of the combo I made were the pineapple – tangy and delicious! I think we’ll go a little crazy next time we make these and combine flavors. Lemon-lime? Yes, please!! And Lemon-Berry? Another great flavor to make. Any of the smoothie recipes we love would be great as DIY Fla-Vor-Ice Popsicles!

These are great frozen treats. I love ALDI’s fruit selection and their prices.
Love it! These are genius and I think I’m going to make some for me for treats too! Thank you!
I love Aldi’s organic selection. It is always very reasonably priced and tasty. It is my “goto” grocery store.
This is a great idea. I love it.
