Bathroom Organization Ideas

I love these ideas!  I’m still waiting on the vanity to be installed in my kids’ bathrooms so they are keeping their toothbrushes and toiletries in my powder room, which I HATE! I love these ideas and can’t wait to implement in our home.

I really struggle with laundry. I don’t have a hard time pushing it through the machine, it’s the folding and putting away which drags me down. One of these days I hope to have a system down pat like these bloggers we’ve featured here.

Getting Chores Done

Chores. Sometimes it feels like getting kids to help is worse than a trip to have teeth pulled at the dentist. But I tell you want, they help make the mess, and they have to help clean it up. There is no way one person can or should be responsible for keeping the entire house neat and tidy, in my mind. I tell my kids all the time that our family has to work together to get the job done. Many hands make light work, right?

  1. Great post! I actually love to fold clothes. So feel free to bring those piles over.

Two quick tips from a momma to five…. First, everyone has a color. All towels, notebooks, pencils, etc. come in this color. This eliminates the “that is not mine” and the “I didn’t put it there” arguments. If an item doesn’t come in colors then I add the appropriate color of electrical tape or a dab of fingernail polish to the item. The rule in our house is if you own it, it has to have your color on it.

Second is each week a child is Helper of the Week. The Helper changes every Sunday. This is the person I call when there is an unassigned chore to do. That way I am not calling on the same person all the time. The Helper also has extra privileges. They get first pick with everything that week. They choose which seat they want at the dinner table/in the car. They choose the movie for movie night. They also are the tie breaker for any split decisions. The other kids know the Helper of the Week rotation. (It runs oldest to youngest Christmas to Father’s Day and youngest to oldest the other half of the year.) So if I need something and the Helper isn’t around I ask the person with second pick to help or if two people want the same seat in the car then they solve it themselves by someone saying, “You have to move because I have pick over you.” Hopefully that explaination is understandable. I am typing on my phone.

Thanks again, Michelle. Love your blog.

    1. Your tips are great, Larae! We do the color, but only on towels. It would be helpful to apply that to more products!! And I love the Helper of the Week concept! What a great idea. How did you get so smart?! 🙂

  2. Great ideas! I really need to let go of some of my control tendencies. Since the kids started public school it is soooo much easier to just do it all myself- and right the first time. Kind of robbing the little monsters of the lesson though.
