I’ve been using Walgreen’s Mobile App for a while – I can check out their weekly ads and order prints of my pictures, all right from my phone. Recently, though, Walgreens added a new feature to their Mobile App – Paperless Coupons! I originally started blogging a long time ago after learning how to save money couponing from blogging queens like MoneySavingMom and Hip2Save, so it’s safe to say coupons are near and dear to my heart.

When my husband first left active duty Air Force life back in 2006 and we became self-employed, I had to get very creative to keep us out of debt because our income essentially vanished. My monthly budget for feeding and cleaning my family was around $250! For the entire month, if you can believe it.  But I did it. AND – I fed my family pretty well, honestly, by cooking from scratch and gardening. Coupons and stores like Walgreens (where I got a lot of free toothbrushes and razors) helped me a lot.

And then life got out of control! We started making an income again, we added more kids and more responsibilities, and I started writing my own blog. Suddenly, I didn’t have time to surf the internet in search of coupons and the thought of installing coupon printers on my computer and printing and cutting zillions of paper coupons really repulsed me. Honestly, I like the idea of couponing and I know from personal experience that a person can maintain a pretty healthy lifestyle and still find useful, money saving coupons, but I have joined the ranks of people who now claim to have no time for all that nonsense!

So when I learned that Walgreens has taken a lot of the headache out of couponing, I was really thrilled. As a self-employed family, there is no guaranteed pay check and no such thing as a sure, money paying job. Our employees are paid before we are and we have often gone without to make the bottom line. But quite simply, even though our business is in much better shape than it was in 2006, saving money on household items means I have money to spend on things I love – like the trip my husband I just took to Europe. Saving money wherever we can is necessary because if we didn’t, we wouldn’t afford the fun things in our lives that keep me sane – like a lot of travel.

I really love Walgreen’s Mobile App and the idea of paperless coupons! The app is straightforward and easy to use and combines manufacturer coupons with in-store coupons too. All you have to do is download the app, sync your Balance Rewards account and your coupons should be applied right at the register. {Now I did have some problems with this whole process because for some reasons the coupons weren’t automatically applied as they should have been, but we eventually got it sorted out and it will not deter me from using Walgreens Paperless Coupons in the future. I do recommend, however, that you know which coupons should be applied to your purchase and make sure that they are, in fact, applied before you pay.}

If you’ve ever gone on a couponing run at Walgreens you might know that the sheer number of coupon sources can be quite large – manufacturer coupons, weekly ad coupons, monthly savings book coupons. What this Mobile App does it put all of those coupon sources right at your finger tips in one spot! I really like being able to hop on my phone and find coupons (and yes, even for eco-friendly and green products) and then not have to print them, cut them, organize them, or store them! I never forget my phone – so having the coupons on my phone means they show up when they’re supposed to.

While I no longer coupon like I used to, and I certainly spend a lot more than $250 a month now to feed my growing family, I’m really excited about Walgreens Paperless Coupons! Using them will help me find creative ways to save money so we can continue to do the things we love – take trips to Europe, enjoy German food and drink, and splurge on German chocolate.

    What a gorgeous trip! I agree, saving money on the day to day should be spent on fun splurges like travel. I look forward to taking my family to Asia to meet some of my friends in the future. #client
