Game Day Snack Ideas

Many people buy unhealthy snacks for football parties because it’s cheap and easy, but cheap and easy is also possible for healthy and tasty too! Even for parties, and even on a budget. I recently went to ALDI to see what healthier options they have for big parties and came back with a cart full of ingredients and enough food for six different snack and appetizer ideas (probably enough to feed 12-15 people) for right around $70.

ADLI haul for healthier Super Bowl Party snacks. Ingredients for 12-15 people for $70.

That’s $4.67 – $5.83 per person for delicious, healthier snacks. Not too shabby in my mind, because honestly, when was the last time you ONLY spent $70 on a party? I know we can spend a heck of a lot more than that without trying hard at all. But at ALDI, I was able to pick up a lot of ingredients for several healthier snack options that yielded much more food than the first picture shows. Here’s what we made.

Homemade Guacamole Dip recipe. A must have for any party!

Guacamole, salsa, and chips

Guacamole is one of my all-time favorite dishes. I picked up a few ingredients at ALDI {because you just can’t beat 49 cent avocados!} but I assume that you have other ingredients on hand, like seasoning, garlic, and onions. I also picked up three bags of organic and/or Non-GMO verified tortilla chips, a jar of organic salsa, plus a fresh Pico de Gallo.

  • 6 x avocados – $0.49 ea, $2.94
  • 1 package cilantro – $0.79
  • Organic grape tomatoes – $2.69
  • lime – $1.49 for 5, $0.30
  • SimplyNature Organic Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips – $1.99
  • SimplyNature Blue Corn Tortilla Chips (Project Non-GMO Verified) – $1.69

At $4.69 per bag, these spicy nuts were my big splurge. But, let me tell you, we really love the Wasabi Soy Almonds and the Chili Lime Cashews from ALDI. And what party is complete without nuts? Every party needs a splurge, and these are good items to splurge on.

  • Southern Grove Wasabi Soy Almonds – $4.69
  • Southern Grove Chili Lime Cashews – $4.69

rainbow fruit platter - fun appetizer idea for any party. Fruit Platter

Fruit Platter might seem a strange option for a football party, but I’ve long found fruit platters to be big hits with kids and adults alike. Who can resist a juicy raspberry or a wonderful piece of pineapple? If you’d also like to add in a healthy fruit dip, I’ve got a great recipe over here.  I bought the following fruit for my Fruit Platter:

  • Pineapple – $1.49 each
  • Raspberries –  $1.99
  • Blackberries – $1.79
  • Organic blueberries – $3.49
  • 2 lbs grapes –  $3.48

Queso Dip make with real food. Delicious appetizer i

Queso Dip made with real cheese

I learned how to make this Queso Dip with real cheese several years ago and it is a huge hit. It’s not hard to make, and can also be made ahead of time and kept warm in a slow-cooker, just like its much less healthy counterpart. To make this dip I used:

  • 1 lb SimplyNature Organic Grass Fed Ground Beef – $6.99
  • 1/2 Happy Farms Sharp Cheddar Cheese block – $1.89/2 (.95)
  • 1/2 Specially Selected Gouda block – $2.99/2 (1.50)
  • 1/2 jar SimplyNature Organic Salsa – $1.69/2 (.85)

Total cost: $10.29. You can find the entire recipe I used to make this delicious Queso Dip with Real Cheese here.

Bacon wrapped stuffed jalpeno and sweet peppers. A delicious appetizer kids and adults with both love.

Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Peppers {some spicy, some sweet}

Stuffed peppers are so easy to make. Add a mix of sausage and cream cheese to peppers, wrap in bacon and bake. You can see the recipe I adapted here. I’ve made this with banana peppers, mini sweet peppers, and also jalapeno peppers. My favorite peppers are spicy! But a lot of people prefer less spice, and that’s why I also included mini sweet peppers. They were a big hit with my kids.

  • Mini Sweet Peppers – $2.39
  • Jalapeno Peppers – $0.59 x 2
  • Appleton Farms Pork Sausage Roll – $1.99
  • Happy Farms Cream Cheese – $0.99
  • Appleton Farms Never Any! Hickory Bacon – $5.49

Total Cost: $12.04

Available while quantities last. All products may not be available in all stores. Prices subject to change.

My grand total for all of this deliciousness came to $66.50!! So, for just under $70 I got what I consider to be an awesome spread for a Healthier Super Bowl Party.
