DIY Lunch Station

I shared a couple weeks ago that my four kids (who have previously been homeschooled) are heading off to school this year. This is a first for me and I would be lying if I said I’m not nervous about the transition already. I’m totally anxious and worried about a lot of things, one being how to prepare healthy lunches for four kids every day!

To make the process easier, we created a DIY lunch station using my lovely IKEA cart and a dedicated lunch bin in the fridge as well! This station will let my kids help pack their own lunches. Some things will still require a little help from me, but it will be pretty easy for the kids to grab and go from the lunch cart and fridge bin. I picked up all the goodies for this lunch cart recently at Aldi. If you guys follow me on this blog, you know I love Aldi and their ever growing selection of organic and non-gmo food items.

Healthy School Lunches with Items from Aldi

I prefer organic and non-gmo options so they make up most of this list, but Aldi also has an impressive selection of conventional grocery items as well. I also listed the prices I paid, but do keep in mind that they can fluctuate based on location and availability. Also, because we do like occasional sweets (keeping it real!), I also included a few of my favorite sweet items to pack in school lunches too. They aren’t necessarily healthy, but they sure are good and the kids love them!

Printable Checklist for a Smooth Back to School Transition

I haven’t shared this information on the blog yet, but all four of my children are heading off to public school this year for the first time ever. Since I’ve homeschooled for over seven years, this is a big deal for me. One of the things we really like about homeschooling is not having to be places early in the morning very often. When we start back to school in a few short weeks, I’ll have to get four kids out the door before 8:00 am. Yikes! Anxiety is already setting in and I’m trying hard to get organized. One way I’m organizing is with checklists for the kids so they can take ownership of the things they need to do each day before and after school. To try to keep my nagging to a minimum, we created before and after school checklists and printed them with my new HP DeskJet 3636.

I’m so excited that I was able to print these checklists in my house! When we moved into the Passive-Aggressive House last September, our printer stayed in the offices in the barn. I could print from my house, but we had to run to the barn to pick up the papers. Needless to say, printing hasn’t been very convenient. I’ve been saying for months that I want to buy a printer for the house and I finally made it happen.

When I decided to get a printer for the house, I wanted a few features besides simply being able to pick the prints up *inside* my house. Besides printing, I need to be able to scan and copy. At under $60, the HP DeskJet 3636 that I picked up at Walmart was very affordable. It’s also small enough to fit right in my new sideboard that I’m using as a blogging desk. And I really love the easy mobile printing! Have you ever had something on your phone that you had to figure out how to get to your computer to print? I have and it’s annoying. With the 3636, I can use the HP All-in-One Printer Remote mobile app and print (AND SCAN!) directly from my phone. But best of all, this printer prints twice as many pages with Original HP high-yield ink cartridges!HP Desk Jet 3636

Back to School Checklist

My kids are going into 7th, 5th, 3rd, and 1st grade. You’d think they would all know to do these things by now, but the truth is, they don’t. The first thing I printed with my new printer are before and after school lists which the kids have seen and already talking about. My two littles are even excited about the lists. I’ve got them on clipboards for the time being and we’ll keep them in their lockers. The lists slide inside a page protector and are reusable by using dry erase markers!

Back to School Lunch Box FROZEN Printables & Grapes

Have you seen the new FROZEN themed grapes at Walmart? I was shocked the other day when my husband brought some home for breakfast – shocked because first of all, he rarely does the grocery shopping, and second of all, I had just heard about FROZEN grapes the day before, but hadn’t mentioned them to anyone in my family!

I was honestly surprised that FROZEN grapes are already available in Eastern Iowa – we’re not exactly a huge population mecca out here. Suffice it to say, my two littlest girls were tickled pink with the FROZEN grapes (they are HUGE Elsa & Anna fans), and I was inspired to create back to school lunch box FROZEN printables to pack in their lunches!
