Happy Tuesday! I hope you all had a great week gardening. Here’s a quick look at what’s happening on my little homestead in Eastern Iowa and then the link up for THE Tuesday Garden Party!
My garden is in full swing right now, but I feel like I’m kind of in limbo land, waiting on tomatoes. August has been relatively cool so far this year, with highs in the low 80s and lows in the high 50s! While I love the cooler weather, my tomatoes would really like it hot – there’s just no satisfying me, eh? I have absolutely tons of green tomatoes in my garden and would love for them to explode so I can go nuts canning!
It’s also very dry right now. I really need to weed but I’m hopeful it will rain soon as weeding a dry garden is really a pain in the rear. I’ve I harvested all of my onions and shallots and my potatoes are finally dying back. I picked my sweet corn, but it was nasty. Either I waited too long to harvest it, or it cross pollinated with the field corn that’s grown commercially right next to my garden. I’m not sure, but it’s sad that we won’t eat any of the corn.
I’m still getting a lot of green beans and broccoli and I’ve got a couple more cabbages to harvest as well. My cucumbers are done – the dreaded squash bugs arrived in my garden and I’ve been stomping and killing eggs. I’ve got a ton of acorn and butternut squash that I hope will ripen up, a few fun ornamental gourds, and some pumpkins too. All in all, my garden is still doing quite well, despite the loss of the cucurbits, again!
That’s what’s going on here – now it’s time for the Tuesday Garden Party!

Tuesday Garden Party – Garden Inspiration for 8/12/14
This week has been a great week for harvesting. My husband picked a bunch of blueberries, while eating some too. 🙂 I was able to harvest enough cucumbers to be able to make batch of refrigerator dill pickles (recipe coming soon).
Our green beans are really starting to produce too. I’ll be canning green beans soon. The tomatoes are a little slower in ripening but we have been getting a handful of cherry tomatoes about twice a week.
I also discovered my neighbor neglected to plant zucchini. So, I have someone to share our extra zucchini with.

Now onto what you have to share this week,
