Tuesday Garden Party – Garden Inspiration for 8/19/14

Happy Tuesday, Friends! It’s the time of the week when we all come together to share what’s going on in our gardens! I, for one, can’t believe that it’s actually August right now. Our cool temperatures have been a reality for a while now – with lows in the 50s at night!

I heard on the radio that this weather might be coming to end – we’re looking at temperature indexes in the 100s by the end of the week. I’m fine with that, as long as we can get some much needed rain. All weekend I watched the dark clouds billow around my little homestead, but not once did they drop any measurable precipitation. We could really use the rain.

We’ve been eating broccoli, peppers, potatoes, herbs, zucchini, and beans from the garden. I’m picking a smallish bowl of tomatoes almost every single day, but they don’t last long at all – my 4 kids and I devour them before I can do much with them. I’m hoping the hot weather will help them all turn red so I can get busy canning. I have lots of new ideas for tomato canning this year and am anxious to get going.

That’s what’s going on here – now it’s time for the Tuesday Garden Party!

From your host for this week, Brooke @ Creative Country Mom:

Brooke Graphic Tuesday Garden Party
Really, this is August in Indiana?
I am in udder amazement.
Temps in the low 60s till mid-morning have made me energized to clean-out perennial beds and declutter the garden. By cutting back particularly seedy spreaders, I am getting the jump on the 2015 season. I was a lazy garden girl last year and fed the birds my seedheads all winter long.
This spring all the weeding about did me in!
So I will be saving a few seeds and the rest go to the compost pile!
Plus, my beds look so much better.
I hope you will pop on over and see more of my country garden.
