My husband and I and our youngest daughter are spending the week in Chicago. I love visiting the big city. It’s such a nice contrast to rural, small town living and every once in a while, it’s just nice to get back to civilization!

Isn’t this just a pretty city?

We’re here on a business trip. One of the best things we’ve done as small business owners was joining a peer group of similar business owners. It’s put us light years ahead of where we were before joining the group and it forces us to take working “vacations” twice a year. Plus, the group of people is just a hoot and we always have a great time. This is our third year with the group and the education we’ve benefited from has been invaluable.

Because we’re remodelers/home builders, we try to plan our business trips around major trade fairs or conferences. This year, the Kitchen and Bath Show (KBIS) is Chicago. We spent the morning today at the Merchandise Mart looking at designer ideas for ultra high end kitchen and baths. The Merchandise Mart is located in a fabulous old building, one of the largest office buildings in the world, I’m told.

After visiting Merchandise Mart, we headed over to KBIS. We saw lots of fun ideas here and were quite proud of our headstrong 2 year old’s behavior.

I saw some fun ideas – like this canning station (or maybe it’s an art station?) in a transportable pod:

We’re staying at am awesome hotel. Sara loves the views from our window of the trains:

We went to a Cubs game and saw them beat the Cards! Tons of fun, for sure. It was my first visit to Wrigley Field, to the chagrin of my husband who has been a die-hard Cubs fan his entire life.

All in all, we’re having a great time in Chicago. It’ll be nice to go home, but right now, we’re enjoying the working vacation.

I hope you’re having a great week, wherever you are!

  1. Looks like you are having a blast! Getting any ideas for your Passive Haus? The picture of Sara looking down at the trains from the hotel window makes me a tad queasy - yikes! Great to see YOU in a photo - what a rarity! BTW, I dig your earrings. ;-P
  2. Love, love, love Chicago! Grew up in Indiana but was surrounded by Cub fans. And we made trips to downtown Chicago often. I have a few relatives in the area. I have such good memories of riding my bike on the lakeshore trail with my dad and uncles.
