Pho at Vietnam Cafe kansas city ks

Pho at Vietnam Cafe

Located near the KC Medical Center, you can’t go wrong with a steaming hot bowl of pho on a cold, rainy night! That was the scene when we ate at the Vietnam Cafe and their food really hit the spot.

In addition to traditional pho, the Vietnam Cafe also serves fried rice and curry dishes, plus a delicious assortment of appetizers. I had the Pho with Beef and Brisket (when in Kansas City and all, right?)

We also tried a host of appetizers on the Sampler Platter. My favorites were the crab rangoon and the sweet potato fries!

See the menu for the Vietnam Cafe here and find them at 3934 Rainbow Boulevard, Kansas City, KS

Three Bees Pottery & Coffee kansas city ks

Breakfast Tamale at Three Bees Pottery & Coffee

Start your day in Kansas City off right with a breakfast tamale and coffee at Three Bees Pottery & Coffee! Located in a really cute old building on Southwest Boulevard, this quaint stop features a variety of tamales, including a vegan tamale option.

On nice days, sit on their front patio and in inclement weather, enjoy the tables and beautiful Mexican pottery indoors.

I recommend the Champurrado (Mexican Chocolate Atole) with a shot of espresso. Their Dirty Horchata was also a group favorite.

Three Bees Pottery & Coffee is located at 925 Southwest Blvd, Kansas City, KS

Jarocho Mexican Seafood

Authentic Mexican Seafood at Jarocho

Offering Southern Pacific inspired authentic Mexican seafood, this is a dining experience you won’t forget! Everything is fresh and made in house – substitutions are politely declined – and you can’t go wrong with anything especially the Chef’s Specials!

Award Winning Kansas City BBQ at SLAP’S BBQ

Arrive hungry and early if you want to try the BBQ at SLAP’S BBQ in Strawberry Hill. SLAP’S is an acronym for SQUEAL LIKE A PIG and they’re not messing around! Slap’s BBQ actively competes in 25-35 contests on the Kansas City BBQ Society circuit every year! And they’ve won lots of awards, including first place ribs in 2021!

In addition to serving some of the best BBQ in Kansas City, Slap’s BBQ has huge portions and a fun atmosphere.

People line up outside this eatery before they open and stay in line until they run out of BBQ! I ordered the Burnt End Combo with Jalapeno Cheese Sausage and went with the BBQ beans and coleslaw for my two sides.

We tried so much good food here including:

  • Local sausages made down the road at Krizman’s Sausages
  • Fried pickles
  • Fried cheese curds
  • Delicious baked beans

If you’re so inclined, you can also take a cooking class and learn to make your own BBQ at Slap’s as well! How amazing would that be! I don’t think you can go wrong at Slap’s BBQ!!

Find their menu at and go see Slap’s BBQ at 553 Central Avenue, Kansas City, KS

Quesebirria at El Torito Grill

Quesabirria at El Torito Grill

Check off a location along KCK’s Taco Trail with a stop in at El Torito Grill! We stopped at this restaurant after watching the fabulous Day of The Dead Parade, and the food did not disappoint! The portions were huge and authentic, and the drinks were good too!

I recommend the Beef Quesabirrias – so good! I can also recommend dishes my friends tried:

  • Queso Blanco
  • Nachos – huge plates! Bring your appetite!
  • Chile Relleno Burrito

To drink, try the Strawberry Agua Fresca for a refreshing and delicious non-alcoholic drink or the Horchata Apacionada for an alcoholic treat.

Peek at the El Torito menu here and find the restaurant here: 1304 Central Ave, Kansas City, KS.

Strawberry Hill Latte at Splitlog Coffee Co.

My favorite coffee in Kansas City, Kansas was the Strawberry Hill Latte at Splitlog Coffee Co! This cute little breakfast spot features delicious coffees, baked treats, a lovely dining area, and a fabulous rooftop deck to use during nice weather.

While you’re sipping coffee, go see the the Mathias Splitlog mural right next door. There you can learn about the history of Splitlog Hill, now the neighborhood called Strawberry Hill. This was the first stop on our Urban Hike of KCK!

Saturday Tacos at Bichelmeyer Meats

Bichelmeyer Meats has been a Kansas City tradition since 1946. They have the biggest meat counter I’ve ever seen – with every cut of meat you can imagine!

Bichelmeyer Meats saturday tacos menu

In addition to premium cuts of fresh meat, this butcher shop and meat market also turns into a taco eatery every Saturday! People line the market for tacos and quesadillas every Saturday.

We didn’t get to try the tacos, but learning about the business during a tour of the company was so interesting. I’m definitely going back for Saturday Tacos at Bichelmeyer Meats.

You can read more about Saturday Tacos at Bichelmeyer Meats here.

Bichelmeyer Meats is located at 704 Cheyenne Avenue, Kansas City, KS
