From the minute you walk through the stunning vine-covered entrance into the vaulted open-air lobby to the moment the welcome cocktail is placed in your hand, all thoughts of snow and ice back home will melt away!

The Resort Experience: What to Expect at Velas Vallarta

Velas Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta offers a true all-inclusive experience with accommodations ranging from cozy studios to huge three-bedroom suites. All Velas Vallarta suites include fully equipped kitchens, private balconies, and daily restocked snacks and drinks. The all-inclusive package covers all meals, premium drinks, 24-hour room service, and most activities including yoga and beach sports.

While most amenities are included, there are a few optional services that carry additional fees – like beach massages and private romantic dinners on the beach.

We stayed in a huge three-bedroom suite, which felt more like a luxury apartment than a hotel room, complete with a massive balcony perfect for sunset watching. The pillowtop beds, Egyptian cotton sheets, and down comforters were really luxurious.

For families or friends traveling together, these larger suites provide plenty of space to spread out, while couples might find the studio or one-bedroom options more suitable. Every room category maintains the same high standard of service and amenities that make Velas Vallarta a standout resort.

Finding Balance

During my stay in Puerto Vallarta, I experienced both the comfort of all-inclusive luxury and the slight disconnect that comes with resort living. While the property offers exceptional amenities and service, it’s important to acknowledge that staying exclusively within the resort creates a “tourist bubble” that can separate visitors from authentic Mexican culture and local communities.

That’s why I highly recommend making it a priority to explore beyond the resort grounds, balancing resort relaxation with cultural experiences. When you visit Velas Vallarta Puerto Vallarta, make sure to do stay long enough to do all of the following!

1. Beachfront Massage & Yoga

Beachfront massage and daily yoga are two offerings you’ll want to take advantage of when you visit Velas Vallarta. There’s something special about doing a sun salutation while actually facing the rising sun over the ocean! The sound of waves creates a natural meditation backdrop, while the soft morning breeze is really nice.

Pro tip: Book your massage for early morning before breakfast. The gentle morning breeze, quieter atmosphere, and starting your day fully relaxed makes this the perfect time for a beachfront treatment. Plus, you’ll still have the whole day ahead to enjoy other activities.

2. The Three Pool Paradise

Not only did we enjoy the private beach, but Velas Vallarta’s pools became our daily retreat. Many people claimed lounge chairs before lunch and the pools were busiest from about 10 am until 3 or 4 pm.

We enjoyed the swim-up bar, the lazy river, and the comfortable lounge chairs in the shade and the sun. A poolside drink cart made regular rounds – the strawberry daiquiri was my afternoon refreshing drink.

3. Oceanfront Dining at La Ribera

La Ribera’s ocean views paired perfectly with international cuisine, fresh seafood, and Mexican specialties. We timed our dinners with sunset, watching the sky while enjoying fresh cuisine of the day.

You’ll want to check out other restaurant options when you stay. At Velas Vallarta, you’ll also have the option of eating at the Andrea Restaurant, Snack and Ice Cream stations near the pools, and a poolside bar.

Every Sunday you can enjoy a Mexican Fiesta, a delicious Mexican buffet, lots of desserts, and entertainment including a mariachi band and Mexican folk-dance. You definitely won’t go hungry or thirsty at Velas Vallarta.

4. Sunrise and Sunset Views from Our Balcony

Make sure to enjoy the sunrise and sunset from all places possible! Our three-bedroom condo’s massive balcony offered the perfect sunset viewing spot. Every morning and evening, we’d gather with coffee or drinks to watch the sky change colors over the pools and ocean. So pretty!

5. Tau Beach Club Experience

The sophisticated Tau Beach Club is a great adult escape. We had a delicious dinner there one evening and enjoyed a quiet day of relaxing in the water one afternoon. If you’re looking for a less crowded swim experience without children, make sure to head over to Tau Beach Club.

With premium cocktails and ocean views, it’s perfect for elegant evenings or afternoon relaxation. Their lunch selection is also fantastic!

Note – Tau Beach Club is an add-on experience. It’s not included in the all-inclusive package.

6. Daily Crepe Tradition

Make sure to grab a crepe at least once! The lobby crepe stand became our daily ritual. Fresh-made sweet and savory options provided the perfect afternoon pick-me-up.

7. Embracing Local Culture and Exploration

While Velas Vallarta’s amenities could easily keep you on property all week, some of our most memorable experiences came from venturing out. The vibrant Zona Romantica and the Malecon Boardwalk offer authentic Mexican restaurants, local art galleries, and chances to practice Spanish with shopkeepers. Walking the Malecon at sunset alongside local families gave us a genuine taste of Puerto Vallarta life.

• Visit local markets and check out the art on the Malecon Boardwalk.
