Printable Checklist for a Smooth Back to School Transition
I haven’t shared this information on the blog yet, but all four of my children are heading off to public school this year for the first time ever. Since I’ve homeschooled for over seven years, this is a big deal for me. One of the things we really like about homeschooling is not having to be places early in the morning very often. When we start back to school in a few short weeks, I’ll have to get four kids out the door before 8:00 am. Yikes! Anxiety is already setting in and I’m trying hard to get organized. One way I’m organizing is with checklists for the kids so they can take ownership of the things they need to do each day before and after school. To try to keep my nagging to a minimum, we created before and after school checklists and printed them with my new HP DeskJet 3636.
I’m so excited that I was able to print these checklists in my house! When we moved into the Passive-Aggressive House last September, our printer stayed in the offices in the barn. I could print from my house, but we had to run to the barn to pick up the papers. Needless to say, printing hasn’t been very convenient. I’ve been saying for months that I want to buy a printer for the house and I finally made it happen.

When I decided to get a printer for the house, I wanted a few features besides simply being able to pick the prints up *inside* my house. Besides printing, I need to be able to scan and copy. At under $60, the HP DeskJet 3636 that I picked up at Walmart was very affordable. It’s also small enough to fit right in my new sideboard that I’m using as a blogging desk. And I really love the easy mobile printing! Have you ever had something on your phone that you had to figure out how to get to your computer to print? I have and it’s annoying. With the 3636, I can use the HP All-in-One Printer Remote mobile app and print (AND SCAN!) directly from my phone. But best of all, this printer prints twice as many pages with Original HP high-yield ink cartridges!

My kids are going into 7th, 5th, 3rd, and 1st grade. You’d think they would all know to do these things by now, but the truth is, they don’t. The first thing I printed with my new printer are before and after school lists which the kids have seen and already talking about. My two littles are even excited about the lists. I’ve got them on clipboards for the time being and we’ll keep them in their lockers. The lists slide inside a page protector and are reusable by using dry erase markers!

How do you make back-to-school easier? I’d love to hear your suggestions!
We went back to school this week and we had a list to keep us on track. It helps out tremendously!
Lists are great for kids so they know what’s expected of them and they can feel satisfaction checking them off. Because I work late, I’m always so tired in the morning so I’d have to add a point to the bottom – wake Mommy up with a smile to get her going!
Love this! Such a great printable 🙂 My kids love to have a checklist for everything – it makes life run so much smoother. Also, I love The Backyard Homestead – one of my favorites!
Thanks so much, Heather! I’m glad it’s useful to you. That’s one of my favorite books too. 🙂
