Are you an Iowa Hawkeye Football fan? I am, by marriage. Truth be told though, I graduated from Mizzou and am only allowed to write this post because Mizzou rarely plays Iowa. Lol! My husband is an Iowa native and has always been an Iowa fan. My kids root for Iowa. Our extended family roots for Iowa. Best I can tell, you either root for Iowa where I live or get heckled by the neighbors. {Iowa State fans are mostly underground…} Well…that might be a slight exaggeration. Maybe. ;-)

Hy-Vee's Heros Game

Hy-Vee's Heroes Game ContestEasy Game Day Grub

While you’re dreaming about attending the Iowa/Nebraska game for free, also think about what snacks you might like to take to the game! My husband likes to get together with our friends to watch Hawkeye Football. {Un}fortunately, we don’t have TV in our barn right now, so I am off the hook for watching football at home. I am not off the hook, though, for sending good snacks to football parties at friends’ homes. It’s much more fun to watch the Hawkeyes at someone else’s house! :-) Hy-Vee is a great place to stock up on all the ingredients necessary for great game day grub – from Cheeze-Its and Pringles, to all the ingredients necessary to make Easy 3 Ingredient Stuffed Banana Peppers – ground pork, cream cheese, and organic banana peppers.

Cheeze-Its & HyVee's Heroes GameThe best game day grub includes an assortment of goodies. My kids love the crackers and chips they get to eat on game day because they don’t get them much otherwise. Last week, my kids were thrilled when I came home with Cheez-Its and Pringles. Treats like this are a big deal in our family.  And my kids were only too happy to gobble them up.

But beyond crackers and chips, I also enjoy serving up easy appetizers for football parties: quick, easy and delicious are key!

3 Ingredient Stuffed Banana Peppers

To make this easy and delicious appetizer, you only need three ingredients – banana peppers, ground pork, and cream cheese! That’s it.

3 Ingredient Stuffed Banana PeppersFirst, prepare banana peppers by cutting of the stem and taking the seeds out. You may want to wear gloves to do this, as some banana peppers are spicier than others. And yes, I found this out the hard way…

3 Ingredient Banana PeppersBrown a pound of ground pork over medium heat.

3 Ingredient Banana PeppersAdd a brick of cream cheese and melt.

3 Ingredient Banana PeppersThe cream cheese melts really nicely and looks like this. Now you’re ready to stuff the banana peppers. I have found that a skinny drink stirring spoon is very useful for stuffing these skinny peppers. Add a little bit of the pork/cream cheese mixture and then push down so you can add more. I also stuff small sweet peppers as well in an attempt to get my kids to eat something a little bit healthier than just chips and crackers.

3 Ingredient Banana Peppers Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

  2. Prepare banana peppers by cutting off the stem and removing seeds. Wear gloves to do this!
  3. Brown ground pork over medium heat.
  4. Add cream cheese and melt.
  5. Put pork/cream cheese mix into the banana peppers using a skinny spoon to push the mix down to the bottom of the pepper.
