Easy Oven Sandwich Recipe – Perfect for Freezer Cooking
I’ve been making oven sandwiches for a long time, not only because they’re easy and delicious, but also because they are perfect for the freezer and come in really handy when I need a quick, homemade meal on the double! I used to use rolls and make single-serve sized sandwiches. Recently, I decided to quit making individual sandwiches {the process isn’t hard, but CAN be streamlined…} and instead make ONE BIG sandwich that serves the entire family! It takes the meal prep to about FIVE MINUTES!! How awesome is that? This easy oven sandwich recipe is a family favorite and sure to be a keeper in your freezer-friendly recipe file too!
Let’s get started!
To make your own easy oven sandwich, gather ingredients. You can use any lunch meat and cheese you like, but I picked up my favorite food from ALDI:
- Never Any! Uncured Black Forest Ham ($3.29 package)
- Never Any! Oven Roasted Turkey Breast ($3.29 package)
- Hard Salami ($2.99 package)
- Organic Colby Jack Cheese ($2.99 package)
- 2 loaves Ciabatta Bread ($1.69 each)
I love the Never Any! lunch meat at ALDI because there are no added nitrates, hormones, or antibiotics. We quit eating lunch meat for a long time, but you guys. I just like it. I’m glad to find a reasonable alternative at ALDI that I don’t feel too guilty about eating.
Then, all you have to do is split the bread so it opens like a sandwich, butter with homemade herbed butter {I like to add 1 tsp Italian Seasoning to a softened stick of real butter}, add meat and cheese.
If you want to bake it right away, loosely wrap it in aluminum foil, and bake in a preheated oven (400 degrees) on a cookie sheet for 15-20 minutes. The bread should be nice and crunchy and the meat and cheese bubbly and gooey.
To save one for the freezer, pack it tightly in aluminum foil and then place it in a 2 gallon freezer bag. On serving day, bake the thawed sandwich in the oven (400 degrees) for 15-20 minutes. Or, you can bake a frozen sandwich in the 400 degree oven for 40-50 minutes.
